June 16 - September 10
Traditionally in July and August, thousands flock to the area to go scalloping in Steinhatchee. The rich estuaries provide a bounty of bay scallops. Found in 2 – 8 feet of water, you can wade the grass flats and easily scoop them up with a dip net or by hand, or take your boat and your snorkel gear and look deeper in the grass flats. It’s like a giant egg hunt, and fresh delectable scallops are the prize! This year, scallop season will open early for Dixie County and parts of Taylor County, including Steinhatchee. The season will be open June 16 through September 10.
